Aran Islands
With daily sailings to all three islands from Doolin Pier, which is a 40 minute journey from the Old Ground Hotel, the Aran Islands are one of the world’s top island destinations. Trips to the islands are seasonal and weather determined but most definitely worth experiencing. Visitors can rent bicycles and tour the islands in full, visiting the various historical sites, experiencing the spectacular views and stopping off at the beach for a relaxing ice-cream.
The three rugged Aran Islands lie Just Outside Galway Bay and just miles from the Clare coast and the Cliffs of Moher on the West coast of Ireland. The islands are easily traveled to by Ferry or Air. Ferries operate to the Islands from Doolin in Co. Clare and Rossaveal in Co Galway. Flights also leave from Inverin in the Connemara region. Loved by every visitor to the region, the Aran Islands are 3 of the most unspoilt Islands along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Each of the Islands, Inis Oírr, Inis Meain and the largest Inis Mór has its own individual character and is a favourite for biking enthusiasists. All of the natives on the islands speak Irish. Visitors to the islands will find ancient forts, churches and monuments, perfect for exploring.
